Hi I’m Mark, founder, creator and maker at the_furniture_peculiar.

I’m a South East London-based furniture artist, creating one-off pieces.

Each item is unique and as such has a name, a catalogue number and a signed certificate of authentication which relates to the actual item.

The decoupaged images I use will be used once and once only so you know that you own a true one off.

I source old furniture with a keen eye for items that are well made. As many of the pieces are antique and vintage, they have a history which I strive to retain.

When an item comes into the studio, I repair and restore where necessary whilst focussing on keeping some of its character.

Any broken hinges, latches, rails etc are repaired and attention is given to doors and drawers so they open and close as they should.

I hand paint and occasionally spray items using water based paints and primers. I gently fine sand between coats for a smooth feel. The paintwork is finally polished and buffed using wax for a shiny, durable, hand finished lustre.

The decoupaged artwork is given coats of Diamond Hard varnish for protection.
